Ryan had a plan to propose to Lindsay atop Bald Knob at Whitegrass Cross Country Skiing last winter. His plans were unfurled by a somewhat reluctant Lindsay to get to the top, for various reasons. The plan changed and a warming hut became the vista view of what could have been Bald Knob. Well, when Lindsay contacted me to shoot her wedding this fall, we talked engagement photos. Some ideas were thrown out and we settled for Canaan – plan being to show up and wing it for some spots. I, with no recognition of the ideal proposal, said lets do this trail Bald Knob. Funny, right?
We hiked up it, sometimes straight, sometimes switching back, and were met with some moody clouds and a top-notch view of the valley. We found a warming hut and yeah, it doesn’t really compare, but I hear they keep moonshine in them for cold skiers – next time. Snacking on wild, lowbush blueberries was a bonus for the hike. We then made our way to water, wanting some kind of scene with water. So when in Canaan, you go to Blackwater River. Enjoy.
