As WV Wedding Photographers, I often have clients ask if getting ready photos are worth it? Some clients want longer reception coverage and want to stack their time at the end and not at the beginning. I don’t blame them, but what I tell them is yes, they are worth it. Some of my best images have come from the “getting ready” part of the day. If my best images are coming from that event, then odds are some of your most cherished ones will too. You put a lot into what you’re going to wear, might as well have a go at some fun having it documented. These photographs often lend themselves to being extremely genuine and kind of the calm before the storm, if you will. It is also a chance for the bridal party to cut loose and get comfy having their photos made. This can have huge appeal when the formals come into play later in the day.
Speaking of formals, having WVWedding Photographers Chris Jackson cover your getting ready part of the day allows to squeeze in some formals before the ceremony. Often, I will shoot bridesmaids with the bride and groomsmen with the groom. Sometime in tight squeezes these photos can go un-shot, which can really suck. In closing, I will always recommend having your getting ready photos a top priority. Because having regrets isn’t something you want after your wedding.
Getting ready coverage is totally worth it! So, I wanted to share some tips to keep in mind when planning to have your getting ready photos done.
- Try and get a large room with plenty of natural light.
- If possible, have the room reflect you in a way, i.e., if like the country, go for a rustic setting.
- Less is always more. Always.
- Keep it clean. A messy room will have messy photographs.
- Get all your details like shoes, rings, in order and in the same place.
- Express your creative ideas to the photographer.
- Have a bit to eat and enjoy the moment.
