Every so often I am contacted to shoot proposals on Long Point Trail in the New River Gorge National River. I guess it goes with being a photographer in a pretty rad town. Sal wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Rachael, at a place with significance. He contacted me less than a week before and we worked out the time and date. I told hm I’d hang back from the overlook, acting like I was shooting landscapes or something touristy. I advised that given the weekend in June the overlook could be packed, but it worked out well and the moment they got to the overlook they had it almost to themselves, sans me. And their dog – can we talk about pup model?
Rachael lost it with joy and had so much great emotions. It is such a privilege to be included in these moments in peoples’ lives and am honored to be an invited witness. I documented the moment, chatted for a minute, took a couple quick natural light portraits then left them to soak it up. To live it up. Time moves fast. Find the ones you love and let it go.
