This Huntington West Virginia wedding by Chris Jackson is the kind of wedding we seem to dream about. I do not shoot a lot of weddings in churches – I love them, but I just don’t book that many in a season. However, I really liked this one with Emma and Alan at the Fifth Ave. Baptist Church in Huntington. I have a lot of history in Cabell County as I use to be a staff photojournalist at the Herald-Dispatch newspaper in Huntington. So its always nice to return for work.

The day started with a gathering of wedding party and family members hastily getting ready. I was working that day with associate Hunter Way, who is based in Huntington, and was going to spend the first couple of hours with Alan and the groomsmen and I with Emma and the bridesmaids, respectively. Stress is always lingering during this time for the soon-to-be-married couple and I try to be as unobtrusive and helpful as I can. This is a big part of wedding photography and why having an experienced, relaxed photographer can really make your day go smooth. Furthermore, this is conveyed in the photo set you get. One of the things I love about church weddings are that they often offer a balcony. Changing the perspective of the camera always brings a good look to the photos and something I always try to take advantage of.

After the ceremony and family and wedding party photos we made our way to Guyan Golf & Country Club just a few miles from downtown Huntington. Josh Ruby from Bravo Live DJ was there getting wedding to spin music and introduce during cocktail hour. I cannot speak more highly about Bravo Live DJ. Having top professional DJ can make or break a smooth evening of partying. I think the photos say the most about the day.
